It's not what you say...?
It's where you sit. An article in BusinessWeek points out You Are Where You Sit.
The moral of the story: Where you sit influences where you stand. If you take away their Brooks Brothers suits, Manolo Blahnik shoes, and BlackBerrys, managers are little more than naked apes--social mammals with primal methods of expressing group power hierarchies.
And, keeping it real, the article ends with this truth:
Some experts, such as leadership consultant Patrick Lencioni, believe that if too many people are worried about where they're sitting it signals a dysfunctional group. "If there's a strong insecurity, people are more aware of all the trappings like, What am I wearing? Where do I sit? When a team is functional and has a high amount of trust, you worry less about those details."
If you have something to say, they'll find where you're sitting.
And if you're group is functioning...it's too busy to sit.

These "Looking Good" behaviors that you describe are very costly to business and personal relationships. As a Business Intuitive, one of the first impressions that I get is the level of authenticity that businesses display.
The more fitting in there is, the less profits are made.
Warmly,
