Zane Safrit

  • Zane Safrit is the former CEO of Conference Calls Unlimited. His small business CEO ramblings have been posted at http://zanesafrit.typepad.com for several years now.

3-4 years ago Conference Calls Unlimited ceased investing in traditional advertising. Truth be known, it wasn't an investment. It was a donation. And the ROI was that of a donation: A thank-you note, a towel and a jar of jelly-beans.

He directed that budget to their customers' experience and incentivizing their staff.

It works. Customer churn was less than 1%. Sales conversion ratio is over 75%. Profits tripled. Conference Calls Unlimited was profiled in MarketingSherpa and the book Testify: How Remarkable Companies Are Creating Customer Evangelists.

I've been tagged for 5 Reasons I Blog

Troy White*, from Rich Writers Blog, tags me and 4 others to share 5 reasons we blog.

* It helps manage the voices in my head. Blogging helps me collect, articulate, refine, correct, toss out, reject the ideas (aka voices) rumbling, rattling around in my head while I'm driving or running or idly watching TV or sleeping. It's possibly the best, most cost-effective,  exercise in articulating an ever-changing strategy and tactics without bogging others down in spinning a story, our story.

* I can use the practice writing. I'm an art major. After that my only practice in writing was with emails. Short, cryptic, task-oriented, data-oriented. Blogging daily has improved my writing skills. That's helped in so-o-o-o-o many ways with leading our company through change and more change. The more I blog, the better I write. At some point, I'll retire, maybe...if that's possible at that point...and pick up the crayons again. But until then, I'll blog and be better for it.

* I drink too much coffee.  See Point Number 1.

* Our business depends on blogging. Blogging is the ultimate social networking, social media, resource. You can't find a bigger audience; you can't find your audience with  greater efficiency than with blogging. You can't find your voice ( See reason number 2.) with greater ease to connect with your desired audience than you can with blogging. End of story.

* Bloggers are the best people. The community of bloggers has been so helpful right from the start. And they continue being among the most helpful, positive, encouraging, creative, generous, supportive crew you'll ever find. Then when you realize most are people I've never met in person...it's even more amazing.

Now, who do I tag next?

Shawn Frey, Broom Wizards

Sandy Renshaw, Purple Wren

Andy Brudtkuhl, Get a New Browser

Paul Chaney, Blogging Systems

Yvonne Divita, Lip-Sticking

* I blog with Troy, also, at Duct Tape Marketing Blog Channel. Troy's blog is about Word Wealth.

I'm on it Zane. This is fun.

Shawn

Here goes:

1) It's cheap therapy. When I blog, I feel better. I get to write about things that are important to me and that makes me feel better. Yea, I'm being self-centered but it is MY blog... and it's dirt cheap therapy. Really.

2) I get to fantasize about running a large newspaper. I was a paper boy when I was 12 (sold the route) and when I was in my early 30's I sold newspaper advertising (that's how I met my current employer). When you blog you are the editor, publisher and circulation manager for everything you write. That's pretty cool, just like running a newspaper.

3) I get to talk about hobbies, interests and other ideas. Some are funny, some are insirational and others are just plain fun to write.

4) I view blogging as a social networking forum. When I hear about a good place to eat, I love to tell others. When I blog I get to do the same thing. I get to share the experience. It's fun.

5) I am meeting interesting people because of blogging. Just yesterday I had lunch with Sandy Renshaw. Sandy brought her friend, Brenda Friedrich and Zane Sarfit joined us too. We all had a great time togther, although I was having a bad day before we all met.

Are you beginning to see how this works?

Thanks for tagging me, Zane.

Now I'm tagging 3 others to share an inspirational blogging story:

Mike Sansone - An awesome blog coach

Mike Wagner - A great guy and terrific speaker

Two Maids Blog- An intersting blog about a guy in the house cleaning business
