I wrote earlier about our project to help the Pointe Aux Chenes Elementary school in Montegut, Louisiana. Our first shipment of teaching supplies for the school arrived recently. The 17 magnetic whiteboards will arrive in a few days. Here's the feedback from the school's principal:
Please share with everyone that we are so delighted with the items you sent from Quill! It is already Christmas here! The children cheered when I presented their teachers with an apple filled with 1000 stickers! I asked the children if they thought they could earn 1000 stickers- they glowed! I had to ask them twice if they thought they could earn 1000 stickers- which they said "Yes, we can!" I then told them that when the apple was empty I would have something wonderful for their class to do. I told them that all 'A' and 'B' papers and conduct would be awarded. What a great way to celebrate the first day of school after our Thanksgiving Holidays!
Thank you for bringing us so much encouragement. The colored paper is already on the shelf ready for memos to parents. Each teacher has their file boxes ready to be loaded and the plastic drawers are getting filled as we speak! I am saving the expo markers for when the magnetic dry erase boards arrive! This is definitely an answer to prayer- Thank you for your generosity! Thank you for making our day today and the days ahead more positive! I wish you could have been here to see their faces- know that you have made a difference in our school that will influence our teaching style and touch children for years to come.
Thank you so much - Dawn R. LaFont, Principal, Pointe aux Chenes Elementary
Not being a parent, I didn't get the significance of 'the stickers'. However, I found out from Jeanette, our Accountant (among many hats she wears):
One thing that Dawn had on her list was award stickers. Quill had red, plastic apples filled with award stickers. Cindy, our Customer Service Manager {one of many hats she wears] had a wonderful intuition about the apples as providing a bright spot on the teacher’s desk for both the children and the teachers. Seems her intuition was right.
(Right? I'll say it was right. Thank you, both.)
As we discussed earlier, there remains lots of needs for this school. And we're working to fill them. My point here isn't rooty-toot about us. My point is that there remain many, many such schools and churces and businesses and homes that have as much if not more needs.
We merely asked our customers in this region for their referrals for who could we help. Granted, we asked a bit late. But the needs of many obviously remain even now, 2 months later.
Just ask. There are many who would benefit from even the smallest amount of help. And yes, more help would benefit more. Just ask.
And if you'd like to join us here helping this school, let us know. There's plenty of room and plenty of need.
