Stumbling around the 'net today, looking for some article references, checking up on the conferencing industry, I ran across this little ditty:
Massive media is blogs, wikis, podcasting, and other technology that are increasingly becoming the places that people get information—the what, where, when, and how.
I couldn't have said it better. As mainstream media continues to serve mainly as mouthpieces for other media, or other agendas (how many times can MSNBC report what they saw on a website); And as mainstream media, for profit purposes, fails to fulfill its role in democracy investigating stories and showing that the "King/Queen" of the moment looks naked outside his/her press releases...then "mass media" will only encourage the development of "massive media".
Doing so, they onlyhasten the end of their voice of authority. That leaves them with no other option than to quibble about the definitions of journalism, who's qualified to have an opinion much less share it, and sniff the air as they say "blogger" or "podcast".
Ah, well. Another industry plays the fiddle as its community burns.
